Resurfacing of roads in Penlyn Estate, Mountview and Mitchells Plain

29 September 2025

The City of Cape Town’s Urban Mobility Directorate would like to inform residents, road users, businesses and the broader public of resurfacing roadworks in Mountview, Penlyn Estate, Colorado Park, Lentegeur, Portlands, Westridge and New Woodlands. Road markings will also be repainted in Belthorn Estate. The road resurfacing in these areas commences today, from 08:00 until 16:30, Monday to Friday. For Mountview, Penlyn Estate and Belthorn Estate, the work is scheduled to end on Monday, 15 December 2025. For the Mitchells Plain areas, the work is scheduled to end on Friday, 7 November 2025.

‘Now that the wet season is behind us, the City can pick up pace on its road resurfacing projects. It might seem like a lot of roadworks happening concurrently, but it is work that is necessary to ensure that we improve longevity of the road network, and keep Cape Town moving. The work comprises the resurfacing of roads as well as the raising and replacement, where necessary, of manholes, kerbs, channels, catchpits, frames, valves and chambers. All road markings will be reinstated with new retro-reflective road marking paint,’ said the Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility, Councillor Rob Quintas.

In Mitchells Plain, the following roads will be affected:

  • Nerine Avenue and Maartblom Street, Aloe Street, Bamboo Road, Vleiroos Road, Waterblom Street, Hydrangea Road, Wilgerboom Road, Waboom Road, Rose Street, Turksvy Street and Varing Street in Lentegeur
  • Silversands Avenue in Westridge and Portlands
  • Katrine Harries Crescent and Moses Kottler Crescent in New Woodlands
  • Washington Drive, Utah Place, Arizona Road, Nevada Road, Vermont Road, Mary Road, Ruth Close, Denise Circle, Cathy Close, Petra Road, Louis Crescent, Joan Close, Lara Close, Sandra Street and Colleen Street in Colorado Park.

In Penlyn Estate, the following roads will be affected:
• Dolomite Avenue, Geduld Road, Johanneson Road, Mersa Street, Gamsa Street, Gamsa Close, Arba Street, Wahid Street, Jebel Close, Jebel Street and Middel Road.

In Mountview, the City will work on Warden Crescent and Peddie Road as well as repaint road markings in the Belthorn Estate area.

To facilitate the work, partial lane closures may be in place. Motorists are advised to plan their journeys accordingly and use alternative routes where possible to minimise delays.

The City would like to thank all road users for their patience and cooperation.
